Unbelief Is Debilitating
Jesus said, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” (Mark 9:23 NKJV).
It is much easier to not believe than it is to believe. Many times we come to situations that seem hopeless. There is the danger of going to our Lord in prayer and asking and at the same time not believing. It is sinful to give the Lord a way out because of our unbelief. One must take care not to pray “Lord if it is your will…” or “Lord if you want to…” because we are not sure that our Lord can or will. When we pray we must ask with confidence that our Lord is going to answer our prayer. Just because our prayers are not answered the way we think they should be answered does not mean they were not heard. When we ask God the Father anything in Jesus name we must believe that God is going to be glorified.
Jesus said “…all things are possible to him who believes.” Faith or belief is essential ingredient of seeing God do what we perceive as impossible. Jesus could not do any miracles or anything really glorifying to the Father in His own town because of the unbelief of those in His hometown (Mark 6:6). It is pointless to ask God for something or to ask Him to heal someone when we do not even believe He can answer our prayer in a positive manner that is glorifying to Him and the Father. Jesus promised that who ever believes in Him will do the same works He does and even greater works also (John 14:12).
No matter how difficult our situation becomes in life we must never stop believing that God is watching and able to come to our aid. The best response in times of unbelief is to cry out to God the same way the father of the boy did and ask for help in our unbelief (Mark 9:24).
When we come to the place in our walk with Jesus that we believe unequivocally that He is capable of conquering anything we come up against in our life then and only then can we have the peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7). The only place we can find this type of peace is in prayer. It is never a matter of God answering prayer as much as it is a matter of our heavenly Father being glorified by the answering of prayer.
